Courage to listen...

During the Chapel time, Tuesday September 1, 2019, EGT observed a day of remembrance for the anniversary of the 9/11 catastrophe eighteen years ago. Clara Rich, our American Lector, shared her personal perspective and memories from the event, and how it impacted America. She, along with translator Juraj Remen (V.A) shared with the student body how the theme of “Courage to Listen” can be found in this story as well as the story of the Slovak National Uprising: courage to listen to the cries of the victims and the cry of justice over that of fear, as well as the courage it takes to hear bad news, let it impact our hearts and stir us to action. She also encouraged the students to display “courage to listen” in their own lives, whether to their friends, parents, the voices of history, and even their own hidden thoughts.
We pray that this day of remembrance of the heroes and victims of 9/11 will inspire and challenge us to greater courage in our own lives.

Odvaha počúvať...

V utorok 10.septembra 2019 v rámci chapel-u sa žiaci EGT zamýšľali nad katastrofou terorizmu na dvojičky v New Yorku, ktorá sa odohrala pred 18 rokmi.
Clara Rich, naša americká lektorka, si tematicky spracovala túto udalosť, aby sa podelila nielen o to, aký vplyv to malo na jej osobný život, ale i na samotnú Ameriku. S pomocou tlmočníka, žiaka Juraja Remeňa z V.A, prepojila danú problematiku s témou mesiaca “Odvaha počúvať”. Prirovnala to k príbehu SNP z minulotýždňového chapel, kde obe udalosti preukázali odvahu počúvať nárekom obetí a ich volanie po spravodlivosti pred vlastných strachom.
Zároveň odvahou je počuť zlé správy, ktoré znepokoja naše srdcia, a vyprovokujú nás k skutkom. Clara povzbudila a vyzvala žiakov, aby prejavili “odvahu počúvať” vo vlastných životoch, či už voči priateľom, rodičom, hlasom z minulosti, či dokonca ich vlastným tajným myšlienkam.
Modlime sa, aby tento deň pripomenutia si hrdinov a obetí zo dňa 11.9. nás inšpiroval a vyzval k väčšej odvahe v našich životoch.
